Opera Launches Their Mobile Ads Platform – Mediaworks

Attention: Mobile Marketers and Advertisers, there’s a new player in town. :-)

Software provider, Opera has announced Opera Mediaworks, a company subsidiary which provides advertising, content distribution and monetization for mobile devices.

Making use of a variety of advertising technology platforms and Opera’s mobile browsers, used by more than 237 million people around the world, Opera Mediaworks is expanding Opera’s brand and presence, enabling a more open and efficient marketplace among mobile publishers and advertisers. It enables brands to reach their target audiences while making it possible for consumers to find, use and purchase the mobile content and services most relevant to their interests.

Also announced today is a new performance-based mobile advertising platform called Opera Mediaworks Performance, which provides advertisers with comprehensive tools to better reach their target audience and acquire new customers. Based on the idea that mobile advertising should entice consumers to connect directly with the advertiser, Opera Mediaworks Performance facilitates real-time targeting and reporting on mobile ad campaigns.

Opera has a formidable ad platform which saw $400 million of publishing revenue in 2012, up from $240 million in 2011. It serves 50 billion ad impressions per month across its network of 12,000 sites and applications. Opera Mediaworks counts 20 of the top 25 global media companies and 70 of the top 100 Advertising Age advertisers among its clientele, each of which is aiming to get a piece of its 300 million plus monthly users.

That reach makes it the world’s largest mobile ad platform, according to Mahi de Silva, who is CEO of Opera Mediaworks.

This opens up a large amount of newly available mobile ad inventory for our iMobiTrax users. :-)

Optimize your ads for the right device, the right operating system, and the right market and you won’t have to work quite so hard.

I’ve said it time and time again. There are a lot of mobile marketing and advertising blogs out their preaching “mobile marketing” but let’s be honest – None of them actually do a whole lot of mobile marketing and advertising. If they did, they would say the same thing I already know – Mobile ROI can, does and will always come down to the exact device.

Below, you’ll find a traffic comparison on multiple platforms, the share of impressions for different operating systems, mobile usage in different countries and more. Before you go mobile with your next ad campaign, take a look at this infographic from Smart AdServer.

Samsung Smartphone Penetration Leading Europe Over Apple

$

The number of European mobile owners using smartphones has grown by 30 percent over the last year to 136 million smartphone users in the three month average ending December 2012. December 2012 was also the first month all EU5 countries (Germany, Spain, UK, France and Italy) passed the 50 percent mark for smartphone penetration.

Analysing the smartphone handset manufacturer (OEM) market shows that in December 2011, Nokia still led the field and captured a 28 percent share of all smartphones used in the EU5 region. During the past year a few notable changes took place – Samsung overtook Apple in February 2012 to reach second position with 21 percent share, behind Nokia who was still ahead with 24.8 percent of the European smartphone OEM market.

Pretty crazy how the Manufacturer tide has changed. Just last October, Apple was the leading Mobile Manufacturer in Europe and in less than 6 months have been surpassed by Samsung.

Key Tip: For all of you mobile advertisers, I’ll throw you out a key tip. Target those Samsung Android Smartphones, particularly those Samsung Galaxy phones. They convert like fire! :-)

Mobile Case Study – Almost 4K Profit And 63 Percent ROI

$

I’m feeling pretty generous today, so I’m going to reveal some of our internal data on a very profitable combination of a Mobile Manufacturer, Operating Systems and even the exact Handsets.

So to begin with, I’m a huge fan of the Samsung Galaxy mobile devices. They got nice, big screens and people love these mobile phones. They are excellent for mobile landing page campaigns, which is what I ran here. I’ll try to be as transparent as possible and share as much as I can about this campaign.

First off, let’s begin with that I ran this on the Android OS. Sorry, I won’t reveal the traffic source. :-) My top-converting Android Operating systems include:

  • Android 2..2
  • Android 2.3.3
  • Android 2.3.4
  • Android 2.3.5
  • Android 2.3.6

Some of my favorite Samsung mobile devices include:

Note: SGH-NUMBERSHERE (This is the device model)

  • Samsung GT-i9000 Galaxy S
  • Samsung GT-i9100 Galaxy S2
  • Samsung GT-s5830 Galaxy Ace
  • Samsung GT-s5660v Galaxy Gio
  • Samsung SGH-T989 Galaxy S2
  • Samsung SGH-i727 Galaxy S2 Skyrocket
  • Samsung SGH-T679 Exhibit 2 (Ancora)
  • Samsung SGH-T769 Galaxy Blaze (4G)
  • Samsung SGH-I927 Captivate Glide
  • Samsung SGH-i577 Exhilirate
  • Samsung SGH-i997 Galaxy Infuse (4G)

Ok, now I’m not going to give you all of my winning mobile devices, but I think you get the picture. :-)

Now, I cannot show the offer or landing page either. This offer is extremely hot at Revived Media and I’m only sharing it with a few affiliates over there who have a little bit cash-flow to bank with it. However, if you are a smart cookie, you’ll probably have a really good guess as to what type of offer it is from the way it’s labeled. :-)

As a matter of fact, you should understand just from showing you the Campaign Overview, Offers Overview and Landing Page Overview below, I’m throwing you a bone here. :-)

Ok so, a broad overview on how the campaign performed is below:

Screen Shot 2013-03-05 at 11.40.11 AM

Overall, the campaign performed at a 63.1% ROI with $10,128.60 in Revenue at a cost of $6,210.48 for a Net Profit of $3,916.12

Now, for this case-study I’m only going to talk about the Mobile Manufacturer Samsung. However, you can see a broad overview of all the performing mobile manufacturers below:

Screen Shot 2013-03-05 at 11.46.13 AM

  •  Campaign Country: Australia
  • Carriers Targeted: Telstra, Optus & Vodafone
  • Note: I cut Vodafone into the Campaign because it sucked.

Below, you can see how well the Carriers/ISP’s performed. Clearly, Telstra & Optus are my winners.

Screen Shot 2013-03-05 at 11.54.00 AM

In iMobiTrax, I then group by stats reporting by Device Manufacturer, Device OS and Device Combined Name (Combined Name is the Device Name + Marketing Name) – Some mobile devices will have different marketing names across Carriers. :-)

This will reveal to us the profitable combinations of Manufacturers, Device OS’s and specific devices that are profitable and which ones are losing.

IMPORTANT TIP: I have always said and will always say that your mobile advertising ROI can, does and will always come down to the exact device right? Well, I’m about to show you the truth in the pudding (so to speak). This is what most mobile marketers simply do not understand or comprehend. Look at the results below:

Here are the results of the Android OS 2.3.3 and the Samsung mobile devices:

Screen Shot 2013-03-05 at 12.02.00 PM

As you can see, in the Android OS 2.3.3, with 14 Samsung mobile devices, I only had 4 that were profitable overall. Now, as you can see, there aren’t many clicks to the losing handsets. Why? Because I made real-time optimizations to the campaign on-the-fly with iMobiTrax and cut the low-performers as the campaign was running or these were devices that just didn’t give much traffic from my mobile traffic source.

Note: There’s an important gold nugget I just said. Know what it is? Silly, it’s the handsets that have the majority of traffic on them in Australia. :-)

Now, as I have said, Mobile ROI always comes down to the specific mobile device. Looking at the data above, you should be able to see this clearly. However, for the newbie mobile marketers out there, I’m going to explain this in a very simple manner.

You see, most mobile ad networks allow you to target by Carrier, OS, Manufacturers and (hopefully) specific mobile devices. The mobile ad network targeting out there is dismal at best and their optimization techniques and abilities are even worse. Heck, mMedia doesn’t even allow you to cut non-performing referring sites. (LOLZ).

So, as you can see above. It doesn’t matter what Carrier, Operating System, and Manufacturers you target. You can, will and most likely will always have a bunch of different mobile devices within the Carrier, OS, and Manufacturer targeting combination. That’s the exact reason we built the iMobiTrax mobile ad tracking platform. So, you can track these metrics on your own and have a fighting chance against the lack of technology and optimization options that mobile traffic sources provide.

Let’s move along here and take a look at the results of another Manufacturer and Operating System combination (outside of Samsung) so that you understand this is universal across all Operating Systems and Manufacturers. With different amounts and types of phones within Operating Systems and Manufacturers, you have to understand that these handsets are going to have differing screen size, screen resolutions and data network speeds.

Here’s the results of the Android OS 2.3.5 and the mobile manufacturer HTC within the same campaign:

Screen Shot 2013-03-05 at 12.11.55 PM

As you can see again, out of 21 HTC mobile devices on the Android 2.3.3 OS, I only had 6 that were profitable. Again, the devices in red are ones I either cut or just didn’t get much traffic on from my mobile traffic source.

If you know anything about mobile advertising, you must load quickly on the users device. People only stay on a site for an average of 4 seconds or less on their mobile devices. If you are targeting across a Carrier, Operating System and Manufacturer and don’t understand that their are multiple phones within that combination with different screen size, resolutions and data network speed, you are likely going to lose money or not understand enough to make good optimizations to your campaign.

Now, remember when I said mobile ROI always comes down to the exact device? I’m going to show you EXACTLY. In the screenshot below for this campaign, you can see that with the combinations I mentioned above, we have differing display screen sizes, screen resolutions and data network speeds.

I run a simple custom report from iMobiTrax to determine this:

Screen Shot 2013-03-05 at 12.19.07 PM

Screen Shot 2013-03-05 at 12.21.29 PM

Now, this Case Study wasn’t designed to give out a bunch of newb affiliates a freebie. This case study was for serious mobile marketers to understand that tracking is absolutely critical in mobile. Even if mobile ad networks allow you to target Carriers, OS’s, Manufacturers and maybe even specific devices, you have to understand that there are a lot more variables to consider. Such as, the display screen size, the screen resolution and the data network speed.

Those three variables are not widely talked about and I’ve never seen anyone document this online before. Probably because mobile is a very fragmented landscape and there are really not that many people who are actually successful with it.

It was my aim in this case study to show you some very important metrics to consider in optimizing your mobile campaigns, so I hope it helps!

129 Million US People Own Smartphones With Android As Number One OS

Over 129 million Americans owned a smartphone from October 2012 to January 2013, according to a recent study by comScore.

Apple ranked as the top smartphone manufacturer with 37.8 percent OEM market share, while Google Android led as the #1 smartphone platform with 52.3 percent platform market share.

129.4 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones (55 percent mobile market penetration) during the three months ending in January, up 7 percent since October. Apple ranked as the top OEM with 37.8 percent of U.S. smartphone subscribers (up 3.5 percentage points from October). Samsung ranked second with 21.4 percent market share (up 1.9 percentage points), followed by HTC with 9.7 percent share, Motorola with 8.6 percent and LG with 7 percent (up 0.3 percentage points).

This data comes from the comScore Mobilens service that is responsible for reporting key trends in the US Smartphone Industry during the 3-month average period ending January 2013.

What does this mean as a mobile marketer and advertiser?

The US is one of the leading countries in the world in terms of smartphone ownership and adoption. With as much traffic as there is already just in the US alone, you have to understand that smartphones are only 55% mobile penetration. Barely over half!

Presentation – Understanding How Mobile Drives Conversions

As consumers increasingly turn to their mobile phones, it is critical for businesses to understand the range of “mobile conversions” that can occur such as phone calls, store visits, or purchases on other devices. In partnership with Nielsen, Google analyzed over 6000 mobile searches and the actions that resulted, drawing precise and measurable connections between mobile searches and the online and offline conversions that they drive.

This report/study is jam-freakin-packed with awesome information for any mobile marketer / advertiser. A few of the highlights that stand out are:

  • Mobile phones are always on and always with us – 77% of mobile searches occur at home or at work.
  • Mobile search drives valuable actions for businesses – 73% of mobile searches trigger additional actions or conversions.
  • The average mobile search leads to two follow up actions.
  • Nearly half (45%) of all mobile searches are goal oriented and help people make decisions.

The big one though? – Most mobile searches are conducted in the evening. I suppose this has to do with the fact that most mobile searches are personal, not work related.

Remember to Day Part and Week Part your mobile campaigns. :-) Here’s the Study from Google:

US Mobile Advertising To Hit 7.29 Billion Dollars In 2013!

With the explosive entrances from both Facebook and Twitter, along with a stellar performance from Google, eMarketer has pointed out that US mobile advertising spend grew 178% last year to 4.11 billion. eMarketer is also forecasting that US Mobile Ad Spending is expected to rise another 77.3% to $7.29 billion in 2013.

Here at iMobiTrax, these calculations are pretty spot on for what we already thought as well. However, looking at the grand scheme of things, mobile advertising is literally still just an infant. Check out this eMarketer forecast and prepare for a lot of marketers making hand over fist in mobile over the next few years:

With this type of money being passed back and forth, it’s almost a no-brainer to be involved in mobile advertising. What do you think?

There’s new data on the horizon coming from Pyramid Research. In short, Pyramid Research is forecasting global Smartphone revenues to top a whopping $253 Billion!

Now, as with any data, I have to do my best to make sure it’s reliable. Coming from the brand Pyramid Research alone, I always pay attention to what they have to say. However, in this segment of data, Pyramid Research has granular data on each country, with over 50+ countries! This pretty much makes Pyramid Research Smartphone Forecast, the most detailed in the Industry.

You can check out the Pyramid Research Smartphone Forecast template here. The Smartphone Forecast tracks annual handset sell-through of total mobile handsets and smartphones for a ten-year period including five historical years and five forecast years. Smartphone sell-through is segmented by vendor and by operating system. This product is updated Quarterly (4x/year).

Handy little piece of information to bookmark and check out each quarter if you are a mobile marketer and/or advertiser. Or if you can tell what this is just by looking at it, you’ll know I just threw you a VERY BIG bone in smartphone research.

Huge Mobile Content Sites Are Putting The Squeeze On Mobile Ad Networks

$
0
0

Do you feel that? I know, I do. That’s the feeling of the mobile ad network dominated landscape in mobile advertising starting to turn with the tide.

That’s right ladies and gentleman, mobile ad networks are not so superior anymore, and they are decreasing in authority everyday. Why though?

It’s simple really. Large Content sites are starting to win battles in mobile display ads served. Need examples? How about Mobile Content Sites and Apps such as Facebook, Twitter and Pandora.

As sales start to growth, more and more content publishers will stop relying on the Ad Networks who have basically held us in tyranny for the last half decade.

I recently returned from the Adtech San Francisco trade show and had some pretty intense conversations with mobile ad networks. The fact is that mobile ad networks are starting to lose market share to publishers. Mobile publishers being mobile website and app owners.

IDC recently launched a press release discussing this more in detail. Some of the additional information in the report included:

  • Strong growth in mobile advertising spending in the United States continues, even if annual growth rates continue to decline: the market grew by 88% in 2012 (down from 125% in 2011) to a total of $4.5 billion (up from $2.4 billion in 2011). Mobile market share within all digital advertising reached 11% in 2012, up from 7% in 2011. For 2013, IDC expects a growth rate of 55–65%, with spending coming in around $7 billion, for the United States.
  • Mobile display advertising has increased its market share of total mobile spending by no less than 8 percentage points to 39%, versus 61% for search ads, in 2012. Mobile display ads attracted $1.7 billion in 2012 compared with $0.7 billion in 2011. Growth rates have picked up again in 2012 after a dip in 2011. They were at 134% in 2010, 118% in 2011, and 132% in 2012.
  • Among mobile publishers selling display advertising, Facebook was the number 1 company in 2012 ($234 million gross revenue), followed by Pandora ($229 million) with Twitter coming in third ($117 million). In the ad network segment, not much has changed. Google still holds the top spot ($243 million). One change is that Millennial Media ($151 million) has taken over Apple ($125 million) to claim the number 2 spot. Jumptap remains number 4 ($90 million).

Just as fast as they popped up, they will diminish. Of course, only the strong will survive.

My advice is that you better be tracking your campaigns with an versatile tracking platform that is keeping up with these changes and programming effectively to handle the changes. :-)

10 Reasons Affiliate Marketers Choose Us As Their Tracking Platform Of Choice

$
0
0

I’ve been busy in the war-room gathering some feedback from over 1,000 of our iMobiTrax Web & Mobile Tracking Users. Now, I didn’t add these up to see which ones ranked where. I’m too busy for that, so I will just list the responses.

Here are 10 reasons why affiliate marketers are jumping ship from other tracking platforms such as Prosper202 and CPVLab.

1. Support – We live and die by support. Every user has access to our support ticket system in which I require our team a maximum of 60 minutes response time. Yes, every support ticket is responded to within 60 minutes. It doesn’t matter if we get a support question at 3 am. Bill, Ryan or myself is crawling out of bed to handle it. Our users also have access to all of our Skype handles for immediate questions as well as our office and cell phone numbers. Support to our users comes before anything else. Period.

2. Updated PHP – PHP has gone through changes over the last 24 months. We stay up to date and even ahead of everyone else in our programming. Bill is aces with PHP and we are always testing the boundaries of what could be possible and programming it in. Other trackers such as Prosper202 haven’t been updated in forever and as a self-hosted free tracking platform, you get what you pay for. Don’t get me wrong, Prosper202 is ok for starting affiliates. We used it for years. But, we know that anyone doing SERIOUS volume on their campaigns is moving away. When I say serious, I say upwards past 5,000,000 clicks a month. We’ve had a ton of users migrate over from Prosper202 because it simply couldn’t handle just 1,000,000 clicks a month.

3. New Features – It goes without saying. iMobiTrax is currently on Version 3.0 and we’ve introduced over a dozen new features since we launched it. Bill works on feature requests on a daily basis. While we may not add them all, I can tell you we average about a 75% success rate in user suggested feature addons. We listen to our users and as marketers ourselves, we’re constantly trying out new marketing and advertising methods with iMobiTrax and adding the necessary features in.

4. Industry Reputation – Not too sound like a boaster here but let’s face it. We’ve got quite an Industry known and social reach in owning IMGrind, Revived Media and iMobiTrax. You can find us almost everywhere you look. We travel over 25 times a year to various trade shows and conferences and we’re very active in the IMGrind Private Forums. I don’t know of any other tracking platforms that even put an ounce of energy compared to us when it comes to being available.

5. Proprietary Handset Detection – Don’t get me wrong here when I say this. WURFL (Scientia Mobile)  and other 3rd party device detection databases (such as Adtruth) are fine for starting mobile tracking platforms. To be straight up though, it’s child’s play. Any mobile device specialist knows that their is a ton of power in owning and building your own device detection database. For starters, tons of companies use Scientia Mobile and Adtruth (Prosper 202, Mobaff etc…). With so many companies plugging into the same old databases, you get DNS lookup speeds slower than a proprietary, weekly up-to-date and optimized database. We update our database every weekend and have a ton of Mobile Manufacturers sending us their prototype devices before they are even introduced globally to the market.

6. Tutorials – One of the things Ryan and I work on heavily is providing weekly tutorials on how to use iMobiTrax. From web to mobile traffic, it’s our all-in-one tracking dashboard for every single campaign of ours along with 1,000+ clients. We have over two dozen tutorials and counting, along with an entire video series with more coming each week.

7. 100% Self-Hosted – Outside of the Agency Enterprise version that we will be introducing soon, most affiliates feel better knowing that their tracking platform is hosted on their own server and their data is only access to them. With all the stealing going on in Performance Marketing, who can blame them? Since iMobiTrax executes flawlessy in the latest versions of PHP on your own server, you get to control your traffic volumes you can handle by upgrading/down-grading your necessary Server resources as you see fit.

8. Web & Mobile Tracking Capability – As I’ve said before, iMobitrax handles ALL of our tracking needs on both the desktop and mobile. You can track any traffic source. You can also use custom click/traffic tokens or not. iMobiTrax automatically tracks these options whether you use tokens or not:

  • Click Data – Subids, Timestamps, Date/Time, IP Address, Referrer, User Agent
  • Campaign Data – Campaign ID, Campaign Name, CPC, Offer Name, Conversion, Payout
  • Opt-In Data – Single and/or Double Optins, Phone Numbers, Email Addresses
  • Device Data – Manufacturer, Device Name, Device Model, Marketing Name, Device Type, Operating System, Display Size, Resolution, Data Speed
  • Carrier Data – Carrier, ISP, Country Code, Country Name
  • Custom Token Data – Such as Creatives, Ads, Banners, States, etc…

9. Simple Subid Updating – One of the sweetest features is the ability to update your subids very easily inside iMobiTrax. You can also update your Cost Per Clicks on the fly. It’s literally an all-in-one, real-time tracking and optimization platform.

10. The Future – Everyday, I can asked, (sometimes begged) what we are going to introduce next. While, I don’t like giving out the details before they are live, I can tell you that the sky is the limit with iMobiTrax. You Can Target Feature Phones Only On Facebook Ads Now

Holy moly, there may still be hope for better Facebook Ads mobile targeting options yet!

In a heap of great news today, Facebook has updated the Power Editor and Ads API to give advertisers a new placement option: “feature phones only.”

All News Feed ad types except mobile app install ads and offers can appear on feature phones. Now, “feature phones only” is a clear option in the “creative and placements” section of Power Editor, seen below, as well as in the Ads API. Ads that use this targeting will only be delivered to users when they browse News Feed from a feature phone.

Screen Shot 2013-04-25 at 12.59.32 PM

Previously, advertisers could select mobile placement instead of desktop and then designate iOS or Android devices. Feature phones weren’t an option here. To reach those feature phone users, advertisers had to use the broad category targeting option from the audience selector, which wasn’t as intuitive. It also didn’t guarantee that current feature phone users were seeing the ad because the broad category includes users who might have previously owned and accessed Facebook from a feature phone.

In others, it sucked. Terribly. It’s not better!

We’ve had hundreds of iMobiTrax users having great success using our tracking software for their Facebook web and mobile campaigns with some of our top users generating over 1,000,000 clicks daily on Facebook alone! There’s tons of web and mobile traffic to be had over there but with no custom traffic tokens, you really have to have a superb tracking platform to milk that ROI over there on your campaigns. Have you checked out iMobiTrax? We’ve been advertising on Facebook for 3 years now with millions of dollars in spend. We’ve built it from the ground up to track our Facebook web and mobile campaigns and we’ve had a ton of users migrate over from Prosper202 and CPVLab to track their Facebook campaigns.

Some Do’s And Don’ts For Facebook Mobile Ads

Facebook is one of the largest mobile publishers in the world. When I say that, I’m specifically talking about the enormous number of users accessing Facebook on their mobile devices as well as their mobile App. This gives Facebook a lot of mobile advertising options when it comes to mobile web and app advertising.

Stuzo, one of the social network’s Preferred Marketing Developers, prepared the infographic below featuring do’s and don’ts. Subjects covered include pinching and zooming, text fields, mobile splash pages, modal windows, and presentation of information.

Android Operating System 2.3 Case Study – 32.5 Percent ROI

Hey fellow imobitrax users and soon to be imobitrax users (yes, I’m talking to you, get off the fence). I’ve got a short, small case study for you to have a gander at. I apologize as we’ve been busy building out new features and recently crossed the 1,000+ user mark. We’ve had a ton of mobile marketers making bank with our mobile offers at Revived Media utilizing iMobiTrax as their mobile tracker. So…we’ve been literally overwhelmed. :-)

This was a small test campaign we ran on Airpush (push-notification advertising). It started off as a test, ended up profiting pretty much right of the bat. If you caught my last case study, then you already know I’m a big fan of the Android Operating system. Actually, I’m a fan of advertising to its users. :-)

Here’s a quick overview the stats:

Screen Shot 2013-05-08 at 8.37.28 PM

  • Country: Australia
  • Traffic Source: Airpush
  • Ad Unit Types: Push Notifications
  • OS: Android 2.3

Here’s a short overview from the Campaign, Offer and Landing Page views:

Screen Shot 2013-05-08 at 8.38.13 PM

My ISP/Carrier Report reveals that Optus was my only profitable Operator for Australia. Which, if you know the country like I do then you already know that Optus is extremely easy to convert compared to Telstra. Matter of fact, I really hate advertising to Telstra in Australia. It never works out. Optus was getting all the clicks anyway on this campaign.

Screen Shot 2013-05-08 at 8.42.36 PM

Now, you already know I was just targeting the Android 2.3 Operating System. Of course, no ad network is really all that precise in the traffic that they deliver to you. You’ll see that clearly below from Airpush delivering traffic outside of what I targeted. Sure, it was still profitable but on the sake of an Ad Network delivering on what you target and charging you for it, tsk tsk  Airpush.

Screen Shot 2013-05-08 at 8.45.30 PM

I then grouped a report in iMobiTrax –> OS -> Manufacturer – Combined Name (Combined Name is the Manufacturer Name + Model Number)

In this first batch of data, you can see a combination of Android 2.3.5 OS, Samsung Manufacturer, and a bundle of devices. Only one of which was profitable:

Screen Shot 2013-05-08 at 8.48.33 PM

Now, in this next batch of data, you can see the Operating System was Android 2.2.2 – which wasn’t what I targeted. As an ad network, had I lost money I would have simply told them — You sent me traffic outside of what I targeted, and you charged me for it. Refundo!

But, I was profitable on the OS overall, with 3 devices:

Screen Shot 2013-05-08 at 8.50.27 PM

This next batch of data should tell you something EXTREMELY important. What’s that? Popularity of mobile devices make a HUGE difference in the amount of traffic volume you will get.

Screen Shot 2013-05-08 at 8.52.08 PM

Overall I was profitable on this small campaign. I didn’t continue you running it. Not enough volume for me to consider. Put this campaign together and threw it up on Airpush in about 15 minutes tops so I guess the $356.82 profit paid for my time.

Mobile Case Study – Small Test, 605.90 Percent ROI!

iMobiTraxxers,

I bring forth a small tasty little case-study that might have a golden nugget or knowledge located within should you dare to read this small, but profitable out-of-gate, direct-linked Affiliate Campaign from Revived Media.

Alright, I got bored one night and watched Ryan put this up:

  • Traffic Source: Inmobi
  • Tracker: iMobiTrax
  • Budget $20.00 – (Easy Direct Link Offer Type Budget)
  • Actual Spend: $12.75
  • Revenue Generated: $90.00
  • Total Profit: $77.25
  • Not a shabby profit for a $20.00 test :-)

Screen Shot 2013-05-13 at 7.03.59 PM

Now, the gift really isn’t the case-study, it’s me giving you the campaign on a silver platter. :-)

Here’s Ryan’s campaign setup inside iMobiTrax, he used a landing page in this campaign:

Screen Shot 2013-05-13 at 7.16.55 PM

Ok, ok, I know, I know. You want to see the landing page we used for the offer.  :-)

Screen Shot 2013-05-13 at 7.19.22 PM

Here was the offer:

Screen Shot 2013-05-13 at 7.22.03 PM

Here’s the campaign overview:

Screen Shot 2013-05-13 at 7.24.32 PM

Now, you will see here why I’m a big fan of testing out carrier-specific offers one carrier at a time on mobile ad networks. Verizon kept me from a achieving a 1,187 % ROI in the testing of this easy direct-linked campaign!

Here’s Carrier Data Report:

Screen Shot 2013-05-13 at 7.28.46 PM

I could have further increased my ROI, but cutting lots of non-converting Operating Systems. Literally, could have just targeted 5 Operating Systems:

Screen Shot 2013-05-13 at 7.30.56 PM

Could have drill down further and known to ramp up ad spend on the profitable Carrier + Device OS + Manufacturer Models.

Screen Shot 2013-05-13 at 7.32.48 PM

What’s even cooler is I could then have Day/Week Parted my Campaign to Reveal I’m definitely profitable on fridays and saturdays! Psst….this was a starting test at $20.00 of course I wouldn’t get anymore data than that from Inmobi’s slow as adserver.

Screen Shot 2013-05-13 at 7.35.19 PM

And of course, optimizations could have been made in real-time with iMobiTrax. I knew the offer was going to be profitable, so I just throw $20 at it on Inmobi to see what would happen. Obviously, if I could spend $1,000 a day on that offer at that ROI, that would be a pretty healthy campaign.

A New Kickass Looking Mobile Ad Unit

$

As a mobile tracking company, I’m fascinated by the many, often times, rich-media banner ad units we have to choose from in mobile advertising. It also seems like a new one is introduced to the market on a monthly basis from innovated mobile ad agencies and networks around the world.

This hot-new company called Zooz is announcing a new product today: in-ad payments. Yes, that’s right, “ad” not “app.” The big idea here is to streamline the checkout process for consumers by addressing some of the challenges with e-commerce on mobile’s small screen, and now connecting that process to mobile banner ads to increase click-to-buy conversions.

With in-ad payments, mobile users will be able checkout by tapping once on a visible banner ad within a mobile app, which then launches ZooZ’s checkout flow. As with ZooZ’s previously launched in-app payments product, the fully native checkout experience here doesn’t require the end user to re-enter their credit card or payment details after their initial sign-up.

According To Techcrunch:

The first time a user checks out on mobile using ZooZ, they will have to provide their credit card or other payment details (e.g. PayPal, Dwolla, etc.) in a mobile-optimized screen. But afterwards, all subsequent checkouts become one-tap payments. At that point, instead of entering in payment information again, ZooZ simply presents you with an interface where you can flip through your saved credit cards and other payment methods, then tap “pay now” to complete the process.

Today, ZooZ’s in-app payments product has been adopted by 5,500 mobile developers. The company offers a ZooZ SDK for developers, which integrates ZooZ’s checkout into mobile (iOS, Android, or HTML5) apps, and it works with several app building platforms, including Appcelerator Titanium, Phone Gap, and Basic4Android.

ZooZ’s new in-ad payments option is not available publicly today, but can be requested by interested agencies for testing purposes by contacting the company via email or phone.

Here’s an overview on how Zooz works.

Just curious if any of our readers are using them or know anymore information about them? I’m extremely interested and curious.

How To Setup A Campaign On Exoclick

$

0

Hooray! iMobiTraxxers,

We have our first tutorial on adult traffic ad network – Exoclick. If you’re not familiar with them, then Google them. But if you want the magic cards to the deck, the bulk of what’s talked about regarding Exoclick is behind closed doors at the IMGrind Private Forums.

However, I’m feeling rather generous tonight, so here’s a tutorial on how to quickly setup campaigns Exoclick.

This is a mobile only campaign.

What you need:

  • Hosting
  • iMobiTrax Tracking
  • Revived Media Affiliate Account
  • Offer
  • Creatives
  • Description & Restrictions for targeting

Step 1. Offer Recon + Assets Round-up

Revived Media – In your affiliate panel, you want to test offer id: 1438. You will see the description of the offer like below:

ID: 1438 Name: Playaga – Germany – 2 Landing Pages

Conversion flow: Content billing flow: The user enters the landing page and selects their content. A message is prompted. Once they select then message and then confirm by clicking again (2 click flow) the conversion pixel fires.

Target handsets: All

Accepted carriers: Vodafone, T Mobile, Eplus, and O2.

Restrictions: No Wifi. Usage of the word “FREE” or words with the same or similar meaning are not allowed. Additionally, creative’s used may not be misleading or deceptive. No i-framing, incent, content locking, or SMS.

Landing Pages: There are 2 of them, and they are NSFW so I’m just choosing the first one here.

Creatives: I see a few 300×250 which are perfect for the mobile 300×250 placements Exoclick has available. :-)

So, my idea here is to test Offer: 1438 Playaga Germany -2 LP’s, 4 banners at 300×250 with each banner spit 25% between each lander.

Easy enough, let’s set that up right away…

Step 2. iMobiTrax Campaign Setup

Ok, I know Exoclick has a couple of their own click tokens. You have to ask a Rep or search deep for them, but they are now available to you if you were not aware, in the screenshot below:

Screen Shot 2013-05-18 at 11.37.28 PM

So, I got my 3 click tokens setup. Now, when I run custom click token reports in iMobiTrax, it will show me how well/bad a sitename is performing + campaignID + which of my 300×250 banners. Yep, we added in 1 so now we just switch ad=1 to ad=2 with banner two and with banner three ad=3, so on and so forth. Pretty simple to see banner reports ehhh?:-)

Got my details setup into a new iMobiTrax campaign:

Screen Shot 2013-05-18 at 11.45.46 PM

Screen Shot 2013-05-18 at 11.50.22 PM

As you can see, I already added the extra click tokens and pre-populated them here in our iMobiTrax campaign. I’m also passing only iMobiTrax subid to offer.

Perfect, I scroll down in iMobiTrax and name my offer urls + input each affiliate link, properly constructed, into each offer url field in iMobiTrax. I’m splitting both of these landing pages at 50% each. Both payout $16.00 CPA.

Correct Setup From Revived Media + iMobiTrax

You come to a point, where there is a little back and forth between your Revived Media Panel and iMobiTrax Campaign Setup. I want to make that as smooth as possible here.

Revived Media – So, the first thing is to scroll through your offer, until you get down to the Generate Tracking URL Box.  This is what you see:

Screen Shot 2013-05-18 at 11.54.57 PM

Revived Media – Click on “Add Affiliate Subid” type “xx” into the box. Click Update, and look at your new link in the tracking link box now:

Screen Shot 2013-05-18 at 11.56.13 PM

Now, take that link, but after &aff_sub=, chop the xx. Don’t use it in iMobiTrax. Chop the xx off, so the affiliate link looks like this, then input this as your offer url in the boxes provided:

http://go.leadforce.net/aff_c?offer_id=1438&aff_id=1294&aff_sub=

That’s where your affiliate subid number is dynamically inserted for that campaign. Right after your subid comes the custom tokens you set in iMobiTrax for easy analysis and shuffling around.

Now, when I got to pull the 2nd lp from Revived Media and construct my link. I added xx to subid and clicked update, but now my link looks funky Ruck?

Screen Shot 2013-05-19 at 12.00.03 AM

Really, this is simple too.

See the &aff_sub=xx

Copy that from the url, and stick it on the end. Basically, swap out &url_id=2086 with &aff_sub=xx. Also, make sure you cutoff the “xx” directly before sliding into iMobiTrax.

Just make sure it looks and displays correctly before implementing into iMobiTrax. The current iMobiTrax form for your affiliate url above would be:

http://go.leadforce.net/aff_c?offer_id=1438&aff_id=1294&url_id=2086&aff_sub=

Seriously, iMobiTrax campaign is setup. Scroll down until you see your campaign link. Make sure to always test it! Also, grab your postback URL from iMobiTrax and place it correctly in the offer at iMobiTrax that you are running:

Screen Shot 2013-05-19 at 12.05.21 AM

Your postback in iMobiTrax looks like this on the end of ?subid=NETWORK_TOKEN

Grab the entire post back url from IMobiTrax. Paste into the Postback URL box of Revived Media:

Screen Shot 2013-05-19 at 12.07.03 AM

Make this in iMobitrax that you pasted into Revived Media:

From this –> http://www.trackapp.net/t/track.php?subid=NETWORK_TOKEN

To This –> http://www.trackapp.net/t/track.php?subid={aff_sub}

Click Save. You’re done with Revived Media + iMobiTrax. Now, it’s time to setup that campaign on Exoclick!

Ryan, Bill and myself have that entire campaign process down in under 2 minutes flat. Once you have access to traffic sources, and you have your traffic sources, their extra token information, their ad unit types and sizes and ad options they offer, you can literally walk in with iMobiTrax and level the place to the ground, that’s why we built it.

Well, to be straight up, Exoclick has shit for mobile targeting options, I went very generic with my targeting. That’s the power of iMobiTrax. Doesn’t matter what I speculate or walk into, it’s there to record and display everything down to the most granular of variables. Ok, back to Exoclick setup:

Traffic Types – Mobile: All Mobile Devices

Mobile Carriers – All Mobile Carriers

Category – Adult: All

Ad Format – Banner 300×250

Countries – Germany

Screen Shot 2013-05-19 at 12.14.18 AM

Yea, $0.14 WTF for Mobile German traffic….Hmm, we’ll see about this.

Sites: Targeting: Premium Placements.

Here’s a few in a screenshot I chose. I was shooting for the 300×250 mobile ad unit that slips so neatly in flow with the adult tube sites out there.

Screen Shot 2013-05-19 at 12.15.51 AM

My Marketing Material:

NSWF!! – Might as well be transparent as possible here. Here are the 4 most professional looking banners I want to start testing.

Note: Each of these 4 banners is hot-linked to each landing page.

Remember: 2 landing pages, 4 banners

Screen Shot 2013-05-19 at 12.18.01 AM

There you go. That baby is all setup and ready to run.

Once you spend $50.00 you’ll get data back on which banners performed best for each offer lp. You’ll also know which LP converted better. :-)
